With a barren and rugged landscape, in comparison to the rest of Ireland, there are not a huge amount of activities for children in the North West of Ireland. Roads, and transport in general, are also not as developed as, for example, the East of Ireland. While the landscape is spectacular, it is mainly farmland and country roads. It is best to choose one of the more active parts of the region, such as Sligo Town or Donegal Town. The roads of the North West are notoriously narrow and difficult to navigate, even for the most experienced of drivers. Long journeys by car are best avoided, especially when travelling with small children.
